Human Cities_Challenging the City Scale 2014-2018
March 13-14, 2017
Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne 2017

Context
The Cité du design, which leds the European project Human Cities_Challenging the City Scale, has carried out experiments on the subject of the “Urban scale in question” since 2015. In the contemporary urban context, the model of the traditional city, with a centre and a surrounding area, is disappearing, to be replaced by a world of networks, connections, multipolarity: flows outweigh the places. These structural changes affect both people and spaces, such as vacant shops in city centres. How can we invent innovative proposals to activate these spaces and scales?

Participants
European and local partners of the Human Cities project, international designers, local actors (City, Métropole, EPASE, shopkeepers, artists, designers, associations, inhabitants).
